In an attempt to finally learn how to use SQL I have picked up a few SQL 2012 books and created a few Windows 2012 servers to install and learn SQL 2012. In the past two days I have made it through 210 pages of Beginning SQL Server 2012 For Developers 3rd Edition and have learned quite a bit about creating databases from scratch and from templates as well as creating and altering tables. My goal is to learn enough about how to use SQL 2012 to become an expert in creating Business Intelligence dashboards in SharePoint 2013. As far as this first book goes, It does seem a bit wordy with not enough hands on exercises. What I would really like to find ins a book for people like me, someone who has experience installing, configuring and tuning and basic knowledge of how to connect to it but still not a DBA. I will get there, but with the books I have, it may take a little longer than I originally wanted.
