List

After a weekend spent patching SharePoint to the 9’s I come in Monday morning to see that the Enterprise Search service is degraded. *sigh* There is always something… This was also displayed as a tiny yellow triangle with a white exclamation point on the Search Administration page. Now, on to the fix!

I queried the Enterprise Search Status with the following commands:

1
2
<div class="line number1 index0 alt2"><code class="bash plain">$ssa = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication</code></div>
<div class="line number2 index1 alt1"><code class="bash plain">Get-SPEnterpriseSearchStatus -Text  -SearchApplication $ssa</code></div>

Surprise, surprise, it was reporting back as degraded. What to do, what to do??

The fix in this case was surprisingly simple!

Under Crawling, on the left quick launch menu, click “Index Reset” then click “Reset Now”. After resetting the index you will need to kickoff a full crawl.

Upon returning to the Search Administration page, you should now see that all search components are green check marks and querying the Enterprise Search Status returns the following:
